Trade-off: Immediate Gratification for Growth

“Count it all joy, my brothers, when you meet trials of various kinds, for you know that the

testing of your faith produces steadfastness. And let steadfastness have its full effect, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing.” James 1:2-4

The desire for immediate gratification hinders discipling. Sure it would be great if those we discipled took our advice and got to the next stage in their journey. But as I talked about in the Law of Pain it is the struggle that gets both you and those you disciple closer to your potential.

So celebrate when you, and those you disciple, feel and resist the draw for instant gratification! For that uncomfortableness is telling you that you are winning! Because when that little voice says you are losing, you are doing something right!
