“Listen to advice and accept instruction, that you may gain wisdom in the future.” Proverbs 19:20
Being a leader is complicated. It requires respect, experience, emotional strength, people
skills, discipline, vision, momentum, timing, and more. These attributes aren't innate, so leaders must embody a spirit of continual learning.
Learning involves recognizing one's limitations and the impossibility of knowing everything or accomplishing everything alone. By actively seeking out opportunities to acquire new knowledge and skills, leaders harness their potential for growth. There's always a new avenue to explore or a fresh insight to uncover.
By integrating the learning process into your life, you broaden your capacity. With an expanded capacity comes enhanced credibility. Increased credibility translates to greater influence. As John C. Maxwell aptly states, "Leadership is influence, nothing more, nothing less." Therefore, by embracing lifelong learning, you magnify your sphere of influence.
What new experience can you try? Maybe something one of your family members is interested in? Put yourself a little outside of your comfort zone and take time to reflect on the experience.
Go, outlive your limits!
