Navigation - Estimate

Luke 14:28 “For which of you, desiring to build a tower, does not first sit down and count the

cost, whether he has enough to complete it?” (ESV)

I used to be a Skilled and Technical Science teacher, and one of my favorite classes to teach was furniture design. It was enjoyable to guide students in transforming raw boards into useful items by cutting, gluing, screwing, or nailing them together.

One of the initial projects we always tackled was building an end table. In terms of woodworking, it's one of the simplest projects. However, it offered many opportunities for students to learn important skills. One crucial lesson was ensuring they had enough material for their projects.

Learning to calculate the required material was essential for their first project. After completing the end table, students could choose their own designs. If they didn't know how to calculate board feet correctly, they would either end up with too little material and be unable to complete their project or order too much and overspend.

This principle applies to our faith journeys as well. We can drift aimlessly through life, growing and learning along the way. However, if we live with intentionality and use the law of navigation, we will grow more and lead richer lives, more connected to God.

Go, outlive your limits!
