Feed the Wolf....

In Native American folklore, there’s a powerful story about the Two Wolves:

Inside each of us, there is a battle between two wolves. One wolf is evil—representing anger, jealousy, greed, resentment, lies, inferiority, and ego. The other wolf is good—representing joy, peace, love, hope, humility, kindness, empathy, and truth.

The wolf that wins is the one you feed.

This story reminds us that the outcomes of our lives are shaped by the thoughts, emotions, and actions we choose to nurture. It’s a poignant reminder as we navigate the tension between fear and dreams—two forces that often dictate our decisions.

Fear vs. Dreams: The Crossroads of Choice

When driven by fear, we tend to play it safe, holding back from opportunities that could lead to growth. Consider the stock market:

When the market drops, many panic. They sell off investments to “protect” their losses, retreating into cash. This reaction is often costly—they end up repurchasing stocks later at higher prices, missing out on growth.

Contrast this with dreamers and investors. They view the same market drop as an opportunity. They buy at a discount, fueled by trust in history’s pattern of recovery. Their mindset focuses not on loss, but on possibility.

You Are Defined by What You Aspire To

The words of James Allen encapsulate this beautifully:

“You will become as small as your controlling desire, as great as your dominant aspiration.”

When fear controls us, we live small. Our controlling desires—security, comfort, and avoidance of risk—determine our path. For some, this is acceptable. But if you have aspirations, if you long for a life of purpose and fulfillment, fear cannot lead the way.

To achieve your dreams, you must first believe in them. Trust in the process, even when patience is required. And never underestimate the power of persistence. Believe that something wonderful is going to happen, and move forward in anticipation of it.

The Power of Focus: What You Look At Expands

In car racing, there’s a saying:

“Don’t look at the wall.”

When a car spins out of control, focusing on the wall increases the likelihood of crashing into it. Instead, drivers are taught to focus on the track—the path they want to take to get back in the race.

Life works the same way. When we focus on what’s going wrong, we risk amplifying negativity, driving ourselves into a figurative “wall.” Instead, we must look for the track—the opportunities, lessons, and moments of hope that guide us forward.

Even in life’s hardest moments, like funerals, we can choose to celebrate the good—a person’s cherished memories—rather than dwell on loss.

Feed the Good Wolf: Live into Your Dreams

The key to achieving your greatest desires is learning to feed the right wolf.

  1. Look for Good:Focus on gratitude and hope. When you actively seek the good in life, you will find it.

  2. Write Down Your Dreams:Dreams become tangible when you commit them to paper. Clarify what you want and set your sights on the path ahead.

  3. Take One Small Step:Success is not an overnight leap but a series of intentional steps. Embrace the journey, knowing that even the struggles make you stronger.

  4. Treasure the Wins:Celebrate every accomplishment, big or small. Each victory strengthens you for the next challenge.

Your Path Forward

The wolves inside us are always battling, but you have the power to decide which one will prevail. By nurturing your dreams, believing in your aspirations, and choosing to focus on the good, you take ownership of your life’s direction.

Remember:

  • Relish opportunities—they give you hope.

  • Treasure accomplishments—they fuel your next steps.

  • Trust the process—wonderful things are waiting to happen.

Feed the wolf that represents joy, peace, and hope, and watch your life transform
